Yes, they’re back…..
we love our Whistler black bears!
Whistler is one of those places where seeing a black bear on an early morning walk, as close as this, is a pretty common occurrence. OK, so maybe not always this close! This was a couple of days ago, just as I was heading out the front door…. I guess he just wanted to say a quick hello.
As the snow melts down in the valley the bears come out of hibernation in the surrounding mountains and come looking for food. This year we are seeing more than usual. I’ve seen about twenty so far this spring, including a couple of mama’s and their cubs. It’s always a thrill!
As well as the Whistler black bears we often see other wildlife in the area, including otters, Raccoons and beavers. There is the occasional sighting of a cougar, and a few years ago a grizzly bear was spotted in a residential neighbourhood. I guess with forests, lakes and mountains as our back yard, having these magnificent animals as our neighbours shouldn’t be a surprise.
Intertwined within all the natural surroundings and animal life here in Whistler are some pretty amazing properties. They offer a wonderful setting to take it all in and, just so you know, some of them are for sale!
Until next time…..
