Richmond RCMP and WorkSafeBC are carrying out separate investigations intoa fatality at a Richmond cement plant on Thursday.
The RCMP has attached its serious crime unit to look into the industrial accident that claimed the life of one person at the Lafarge Canada plant at 7611 No. 9 Road.
Richmond RCMP said the incident, which occurred around 10 a.m., resulted in the plant being evacuated.
No name was released and the details surrounding the death were not provided.
“No further information will be released at this time,” the RCMP said.
A spokesperson for WorkSafeBC also declined to share any further information but did confirm the agency was investigating.
“The purpose of our investigation is to determine the cause of the incident, and any contributing factors, so that similar incidents can be prevented from happening in the future,” said WorkSafeBC spokesperson Craig Fitzsimmons.
