A fire at Burnaby Hospital displaced a number of patients Sunday evening but no injuries have been reported.
The blaze broke out late Sunday, just past 12 a.m. in an office building located at the hospital, though patients in an adjacent building were evacuated as a precaution.
Patients and staff huddled in the parking lot while firefighters battled the flames but were later permitted to re-enter the building, though some patients were moved to a different ward while cleanup continues.
“We are always so appreciative at @BbyHospitalFdn to be able to partner with the firefighters to support the hospital – but to see them in action tonight was awe inspiring,” posted Kristy James, CEO of the Burnaby Hospital Foundation.
“They are true heroes in our community and I couldn’t be more grateful!”
According to James, the fire was located in the building where the foundation’s offices were located, but that all patients were safe.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is being investigated.
Can’t thank @IAFF323 Burnaby Firefighters enough tonight! The fire @ Burnaby Hospital was in the building where our offices are. I was overwhelmed with the # of firefighters & trucks when I arrived! And to hear all the patients were safe & the fire out was a huge relief! 1/2
